“Return to the Falls” is a feature length DocuDrama following the harrowing life story of Elder Betty Ross who held the sacred teachings of her father like a torch helping her survive the residential school system.

This film explores the emotional truth that Betty and so many others experienced during their time at the residential schools and serves as a symbol of hope and beacon of light for those who have or continue to experience trauma and suffering.

This movie forges its own path as a hybrid of dramatic, cinematic reenactments of Betty’s childhood journey of unimaginable hardships and euphoric moments of freedom combined with present day footage of Betty as she returns to the falls for the first time in more than 70 years.

The documentation of Betty’s current journey back to the falls intertwines with the dramatic reenactments of her time during residential school to both elevate and fully encompass the emotional gravity of her story.

Elder Betty has bravely stepped forward to share her story with the world, shedding Truth, Light, Forgiveness and Reconciliation on what so many saw as a dark time in Canadian history. We at Black Badge Studios are honoured and humbled to accompany her in “Return to the Falls” and help tell the heartfelt and endearing story of Elder Betty Ross.
